History of the house

The house at Avota street 68 B (previously – Klyuchevaya street, 56) was built according to the project of the famous Riga architect and engineer  Edmund von Trompowsky. The project was approved by the Riga Construction Commission in 1904, and the construction of the house was completed in 1906. Edmund von Trompovsky lived his entire life in Riga, and during his creative life he designed many famous buildings in the historical center of the city. The main architectural styles in which he worked are Art Nouveau and Neo-Gothic. From 1904 to 1908, there was the so-called period of Rational Modern, or the “Period of calm” in the work of the architect. During this period, he designed and built several tenement houses, including a house located at the present address Avotu 68.

The facade of the house was restored in 2020 in accordance with the plans preserved in the Riga archives. The renovation project was developed by SIA “Buvniecibas padomdevejs” under the direction of the Riga architect Karlis Litsis and implemented by the architect Jana Lipska. The works were carried out by the construction company SIA “Janio” under the direction of Andrey Ivanov.
